A Rapid Assessment of Disaster Preparedness Needs and Resources During the COVID-19 Pandemic
This article provides a rapid qualitative assessment method to determine the impact of the pandemic on preparedness and response to natural disasters and the impact of past experiences with natural disasters in responding to the pandemic. This assessment shares that the pandemic impacted the form and function of disaster preparedness influencing the planning behind evacuations. The article includes:
- Implementation of the Community Resilience Learning Collaborative and Research Network (C-LEARN)
- Disaster preparedness and response services provided in community-based organizations.
Recommended for federal, state, and local officials who support the planning in disaster response and recovery. This resource would also be useful for community-based organizations to understand how COVID-19 has impacted and changed the ways that they respond to a natural or human-made disaster.
