About the Cover
This issue’s cover article, “Gambling With Your Health: Bacterial Contamination on Casino Gaming Chips,” explores the risk of exposure to infectious diseases, especially bacterial diseases, that are found on casino gaming chips. Never used and in-use chips were tested for bacterial and fungal contamination and the overall results were statistically significant for the presence of pathogenic contamination. The results show that chips can be carriers of organisms that can cause illness and highlight the need to create effective disease-prevention strategies for the safe handling and use of chips in casinos.
