About the Cover

Foodborne disease is a substantial public health problem. Restaurant inspections are a primary way health departments can verify that food safety practices and policies are being properly implemented, as well as serve as an opportunity for inspectors to build relationships with food workers. In this issue’s cover article, the Minnesota Department of Health surveyed workers in food and beverage service facilities to better understand their needs and behaviors. Specifically, the survey aimed to 1) assess how food workers want to receive food safety information, 2) better understand how they perceive inspections and their interactions with health inspectors, and 3) better understand employee illness reporting behaviors.
