Salary: EHS I: $62,834-$75,401. The maximum pay for this position is $87,968; EHS II: $69,118-$82,941. The maximum pay for this position is $96,765.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Specialist to join our team. This position is open for either an ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Specialist I (EHS I) or ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Specialist II (EHS II), depending on qualifications and fit.

Help ensure Eagle County's safety! Conduct inspections, educate businesses, and respond to concerns.

EHS I: Entry-level, work with experienced staff on inspections, processing licenses, and permits, and outreach to educate the public.
EHS II: Lead projects, oversee program areas, mentor/train EHS I staff, and provide technical expertise.

We offer comprehensive training and support to become a certified ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Specialist! This includes:

  • FDA-standard training
  • Professional organization memberships (CEHA, NEHA, CPOW)
  • Study and exam support for certifications:
  • Registered ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Specialist (REHS)
  • National Association of Wastewater Technicians (NAWT) certifications
  • Certified Professional of Food Safety (CPFS)
  • Conference attendance (1-2 per year)
  • Continuing education opportunities

Job Duties

  • Inspect food establishments, schools, and childcare facilities.
  • Investigate complaints, collect samples, and enforce regulations.
  • Issue permits, maintain records, and provide public education.

Qualifications

EHS I:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ or related sciences or any combination of education and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
  • Minimum: Experience in record-keeping and effective communication.
  • Preferred: Bilingual Spanish-English.
  • Required: Valid State of Colorado driver’s license.

EHS II:


In addition to the above education and experience, an EHS II will have:

  • Minimum: Two years of related experience in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½.
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ or related sciences or any combination of education and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
  • ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ certification (REHS, CP-FS) or equivalent.
  • Experience in understanding, interpreting, and applying environmental health laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, the regulated community, and the public.
