Training Background
Most body art regulations in the U.S. lack consistency across procedures and struggle to keep up with evolving trends. Due to the variety in regulations and lack of training, environmental health specialists have expressed the need for further body art education before conducting inspections. Our Body Art Facility Inspection Training 2021 Needs Assessment confirmed this gap in training, which found that only 49% of body art facility inspectors feel qualified to do so. To address this issue, we created a training geared towards the ‘new to body art’ environmental health professional.
We collaborated with industry and regulatory experts to bring this training to environmental health professionals. In 2022 NEHA successfully launched the pilot delivery of this training at the NEHA AEC. The feedback received from the pilot delivery was used to refine course content and introduce additional engaging materials, including mock inspection videos, activities, job aids, photos and more. The updated course was then delivered at the 2023 and 2024 NEHA AEC. Watch the video below to learn more about the motivation behind the creation of this course.
